HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -- Investigators have made an arrest in the sexual assault of a teenager near Channelview, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday.

Cecil De Wayne McAfee is accused of pretending to be an officer while luring a 16-year-old girl into his vehicle.

The crime happened Oct. 15 at about 4:30 a.m. The sheriff’s office says the suspect approached the victim as she walked down the sidewalk. He instructed her to get in his car. He allegedly told the girl he was an officer and she was breaking curfew.

Instead of taking the girl to a police station, the man allegedly took the girl under the overpass of the Crosby Freeway at the San Jacinto River where he engaged in sexual acts with her before letting her go.

HCSO Child Abuse investigators received several tips and were able to identify the suspect after surveillance video and photos of a vehicle similar to McAfee’s were released to the public last week.

He is charged with impersonating a peace officer and aggravated sexual assault of a child and is being held on $120,000 bond.
