Aggie Women's Basketball play to BTHO breast cancer

Aggie Women's Basketball BTHO out of cancer

COLLEGE STATION, Texas--- The Aggie Women's Basketball team played for a purpose on Thursday night, raising money for breast cancer research and early detection.

Proceeds for the game, known annually as BTHO Breat Cancer, went to the Kay Yow Foundation and the local Pink Alliance. The Kay Yow foundation helps fund mammograms for women who can't afford them, in order to help detect cancer in its early stages.

Assistant Coach Bill Starkey and his wife Sherie, a cancer survivor whose life was saved by early detection, helped organize the event. They also donated $1.50 for every student in attendance.

"If we can give one person a mammogram and they can find anything out, that's [on] us," said Sherie.

For her husband, the fight against cancer is personal on two fronts: his wife and his team.

"When I stand in my huddle and there's 15 young women in there, I can't help think this is going to be a battle and journey for a couple of these players," Bill said. "It's that wide. It's that pervasive."
