FAIRFIELD, TX - The suspected gunman who is believed to have killed a Texas state trooper on Thanksgiving Day was captured in Waller County, which is located northwest of Houston.
Around 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon a DPS trooper, identified as Damon Allen, father of 3, was shot and killed near Interstate 45 in Fairfield, TX.
The suspect has been identified as 32-year-old Dabrett Black, from Lindale, TX.
The trooper was returning to his patrol vehicle when the Black fired shots at him with a rifle. According to Texas DPS, the trooper died on scene.
Following the initial shooting the police began a large-scale manhunt for Black lasting over 2 hours. Black was spotted again in Waller County where a massive standoff took place resulting in Black's arrest.
Thanks to the help of multiple law enforcement agencies DPS was able to take Black into custody.
Early Friday Black was taken to Brazos County to a local area hospital and treated for non life-threatening injuries. He was then booked in Brazos Country Jail on a charge of capital murder of a peace officer.
