BRYAN, Texas - The first ever barber shop school in our area is officially up and running.

The ribbon cutting took place on Wednesday but the shop and school and have been open for the last six weeks.

"We felt that having a barber school here, since theres no barber school period, would be ideal for many people in the Bryan, College Station community and it would help out a bit," Owner Ramsey De La Cruz said.

24 students are enrolled in the program and half of them are women.

"The TV and books portray that women go to hair salons and men go to barber shops, it just shows that men and women can do the same thing with proper training," Owner Jessica De La Cruz said.

Not only are they offering classes to get your barber license, they are also offering incentives for students still in school.

"Any school district in Bryan, College Station, Navasota, Hearne, Caldwell, anything in the Brazos Valley, anyone can get a free hair cut if they have straight A's they just need to bring their report card and show us, and if you are in kindergarten through fifth grade and have good grades, it's a dollar," De La Cruz said.
