First two rounds of Women's NCAA tournament expected to bring business to BCS

Aggie Women's Basketball take on Drake on Friday at 1:30pmCST.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The Aggie Women's Basketball team will host games for Rounds One and Two of the NCAA Tournament at Reed Arena. Those games are expected to inject roughly $500,000 into the local BCS economy, according to the A&M Athletic Department.

A&M is hosting three other NCAA teams: Drake, DePaul, and Oklahoma. All three teams will stay in hotels in the BCS area, as well as eat at local restaurants.

"With all the students and families away on Spring Break, you have an influx of visitors here to support NCAA Women's basketball, who're eating in restaurants that may not be as full if there wasn't a basketball game here," said Steve Miller, with the A&M Athletic Department.

President and CEO of Experience Bryan/College Station, Kindra Fry, said the event will bring exposure to the cities.

"They will get to see what we are about," Fry said. "How we are much more than just Texas A&M."

Fry said events like the NCAA Tournament gives a glimpse to visitors of the everyday culture here in B/CS.

"They are experiencing the culture that we live everyday," she said. "We as residents love it. We wouldn't be here otherwise."
