Local congressman Rep. Bill Flores reacts to the State of the Union

Rep. Bill Flores (R-TX17) reacts to President Trump's speech

BRYAN, Texas-- Local congressman Bill Flores reacted favorably to President Trump's first State of the Union, delivered Tuesday night. Rep. Flores (R-TX17) watched the speech from inside the House Chamber.

"I'm already on board with what the president's proposed," Flores said, referring to immigration reform. He spoke with KAGS moments after the speech.

President Trump proposed a four tier immigration plan that would: 1) create a path to citizenship for DACA dreamers, 2) enhance border security and build a border wall, 3) eliminate visa lotteries and move toward a merit-based visa system, and 4) eliminate chain migration, citing claims that entire extended families are immigrating together to the US.

"The four pillars are spot on with what the American people want," Flores told KAGS. "They want border security, they want to come up with a solution for the dreamers, they want to end chain migration as it exists today, and they also want to take the visas that go in the visa lottery system and give them to workers that could help our country."

In the democratic response to the State of the Union, Massachusetts Representative Joe Kennedy (D-MA4) addressed dreamers in Spanish, saying the democratic party will fight for them.
