BRYAN, Texas--- The man convicted of shooting and killing a 21-year-old Texas A&M student in 2016 was sentenced to 50 years in jail, Wednesday morning.
Victor Garcia-Loyo, 22-years-old, confessed to the murder of his then-girlfriend Maricarmen Quiroz-Octaviano in September 2016.
U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) says Garcia-Loyo, a Mexican national, is undocumented and is in the U.S. illegally. ICE put an immigration hold on Garcia-Loyo following his arrest in September 2016.
According to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ), Garcia-Loyo will serve his jail sentence in a Texas prison.
The TDCJ says they alert ICE to undocumented immigrants once they're booked into Texas prisons. Once the prisoner is released (either after serving a full sentence or by parole) ICE has option of deporting them.
