MIDWAY, Texas -- The hamlet of Midway will get a much-welcomed shot in the economic arm with the addition of a new retail store.
On Tuesday, city officials and representatives of Family Dollar broke ground for a new store to be located at the intersection of Highway 21 and OSR.
Midway Mayor Tony Leago said the new store will be a blessing for the town of 230 east of Madisonville.
“We’ve been trying to get this for three years,” Leago said. “It’s a great day for the city of Midway. This will be a real asset to the community and the surrounding area.”
Leago said the store marks an increase in economic development by creating jobs for local people as well as increasing sales tax revenue.
The store will soon seek to hire about 22 people at all levels, including management and team members. In all, it will take about two months to complete the building, as the company is looking to open before the Thanksgiving holiday.
According to familydollar.com, Family Dollar is based in North Carolina and offers a mix of name brands and private brand merchandise to shoppers in more than 8,200 stores in rural and urban settings across 46 states.
