One local business prepares to honor Barbara Bush during motorcade

The motorcade honoring Barbara Bush will come into College Station on Saturday afternoon. CSPD says the best way to watch is along sidewalks on Texas and George Bush Dr.

COLLEGE STATION - Along Texas Avenue, down George Bush Dr., over to Barbara Bush Dr. - ending at the George Bush Library. That's the route the 50-vehicle motorcade will take on Saturday afternoon.

And like so many in the Brazos Valley, those at Napa Flats are preparing to honor the former First Lady.

Tom Kenney with Napa Flats said the motorcade will be a time where the community can come together and appreciate what she and former president George Bush have done for this community.

"She was a very engaging person and a great asset to our community," he said.

Kenney had the opportunity to meet and interact with the Bush's. He catered for them when they would come into town. He said watching the motorcade is just a small token of his appreciation.

"We really want to pay tribute to them and what they have done for this community," Kenney said. "It is a small token of what we can do for them."

He added that many will take the time to honor and respect her as her motorcade comes into town.

"I think for a moment you'll see a pause in all businesses around the community," he said. "Because the focus, rightfully so, should be on her."

If you are trying to catch a glimpse of the motorcade, the best way to watch would be to park in parking lots along Texas and stand on the sidewalk, said Lt. Craig Anderson with College Station PD.

However, they ask that those who want to watch the motorcade be in place by 2 p.m. This includes parking lots, sidewalks and any areas that people will be watching from.

Anderson said if you are parked or standing in the streets, you will be asked to move. He added that if you plan to park in any neighborhoods along George Bush Dr., to make sure you are parking legally - do not block fire hydrants, driveways or mailboxes.

If you are planning on coming early to get a spot, you are allowed to bring chairs to sit in.

Once the motorcade passes, Anderson asks that those who are watching return to their cars and begin to head out. Traffic patterns will return to normal.

Anderson said to remember with large groups of crowds, if you see anything suspicious, or anything that looks out of place, to call CSPD to come check it out.
