San Antonio police have cleared the scene near La Cantera Thursday at 11 a.m. after hearing multiple reports of a shooter in the area.

Police said that a man reportedly fired a shot at his own vehicle, prompting the emergency calls from commuters nearby. The mall was temporarily locked down as a precaution due to 'bad information'.

Police said they started receiving calls of a man shooting at cars on the access road at Interstate 10 and La Cantera around 9:30 a.m. They were asking commuters to avoid the La Cantera area Thursday after receiving multiple calls about a shooter in the area.

Police had certain areas blocked off and were asking people to avoid the La Cantera area in general while they were investigating Thursday morning.

According to Northside Independent School District, Monroe May Elementary was placed on modified lockdown. Modified lockdown limits any entrance or exit from the school by anyone, however, normal school operations continue for the students and staff.

Additionally, Leon Springs Elementary and Bonnie Ellison Elementary took special precautions inside. The school day proceeded as normal but they did not have recess or outdoor activities during the time of the incident.

NISD wants to let parents know this is a precaution and kids are ok. If anything changes, they will let parents know.

It was not immediately clear if a suspect was in custody.
