The next step after a primary election

Primary elections are over, but for some politicians, there is one more step before the November election.

BRYAN, Texas -- The primary election is over. But, some politicians aren't breathing a sigh of relief yet.

Politicians who did not advance directly to the November election still have one more step - runoff elections.

In order for a candidate to directly advance, they must receive more than 50 percent of the votes. If they do not, the top two candidates will face one another in a runoff election.

The runoff election for Brazos County is May 22nd.

A runoff election, similar to the primary, will determine which candidate from the party will represent the party in the November election.

If a voter voted in the primary, they must vote for the same party which they voted for in the runoff, said Brazos County Elections Administrator Trudy Hancock.

But, if a voter did not vote in the primary, for the runoff they can vote for any party. She added that in November all parties will be on one combined ballot and a voter can choose from whichever party.

Below is a list of runoff elections in Brazos County.

REPUBLICAN:

District Clerk - Republican 9 Margaret Meese and Gabriel Garcia

JP1- Kenny Elliot, Joshua Benn

JP2- Tommy Munoz, Terrance Nunn

DEMOCRATIC:

JP4- Selena Vasquez, Manny Aguilar
