Suspect in two different aggravated robberies charged with Capital Murder of store clerk

Rufus Lockett was indicted by a Brazos County Grand Jury, Thursday.

BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas — A Brazos County Grand Jury has indicted Rufus Lockett, 29, with Capital Murder. 

Lockett's murder charge relates to the death of Anita Jean Randle, 54, a store clerk who was shot and killed during a robbery at the Valero Gas Station on Rock Prairie Road in College Station. Randle was said to have been killed after telling Lockett she could not give him any money. 

Lockett was arrested in connection with two violent convenience store robberies: one at the Valero and another at the Apple Stop on Villa Maria. In that robbery, a clerk was shot but survived, sustaining serious injurious. 

Lockett is also charged with aggravated robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm. 

A date for trial has not yet been announced.
