Future Aggie and Current Bomber Michael Helman Named Junior College All American

Helman is originally from Lincoln, Nebraska and a product of Hutchinson Community College and will be transferring to play for the Texas A&M Aggies next season.

Bryan/College Station-Sophomore Bombers infielder Michael Helman, and main stay in the Bombers' lineup was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association All-America team, his school announced Monday.

Helman is originally from Lincoln, Nebraska and a product of Hutchinson Community College who will be transferring to play for the Texas A&M Aggies next season.

Helman continues to rack up the awards, as he was previously recognized as the Jayhawk West Most Valuable Player and named to the first-team all-conference and all-Region VI teams in the division.

With the honor Helman becomes only the second HCC Blue Dragon baseball player named to the All-America first team, following another former HCC to A&M stranfer pitcher Kyle Simonds. Simonds now plays in the Washington Nationals organization for the Hagerstown Suns.

Helman helped lead the Blue Dragons to a Jayhawk West championship in 2017, and the team’s highest national ranking ever at No. 3 and a team record-tying 47 victories. Over the season he broke six HCC single-season records along the way and became the team’s career leader in five different categories while leading the NJCAA in four statistical categories, including hits (111), runs (103) and total bases (189).

Helman finished his Blue Dragon career in the top 5 of 11 different single-season categories, and he became the first Jayhawk Conference baseball player to ever reach 200 career hits.

He had a 25-game hit streak during the season which was a Blue Dragon record. During the streak, he was 54 for 97 (.557 batting average) with 48 runs, 33 RBIs, 9 2B, 2 3B, 12 HR and 18 SB.

During his time with the Bombers, Helman continues to have an impressive season with a .324 AVG, 3 HR, 7 RBI, 6 BB, 23 H while playing all throughout the infield and the top three in the lineup.
