Texas fired Charlie Strong, Oregon fired Mark Helfrich, and with a 2-4 finish to the 2016 campaign, some have wondered if Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin could be next.
However, it seems those rumors can be put to bed, at least for now. A&M president Michael Young has pledged his support to Sumlin.
In an interview with the Texas Tribune, President Young told Tribune CEO Evan Smith, "Kevin Sumlin is our coach, and has my complete support and our athletic director's complete support."
In a follow up question, Young was asked if that meant Sumlin would be the head coach next September, to which Young reiterated that Sumlin has his support.
The Aggies were ranked fourth in the initial college football playoff rankings in early November before dropping four of their last five games, a third straight late season collapse. In his fifth year, Sumlin is 44-20 at Texas A&M.
