COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M middle blocker Kaitlyn Blake has been named both the SEC Player of the Week and the SEC Offensive Player of the Week for volleyball, the Southeastern Conference office announced today. It is the second time this season as well as the second time in her career that Blake has been named SEC Player of the Week, and it is the first time Blake has garnered Offensive Player of the Week honors.

The 6-2 sophomore from Allen, Texas, led the Aggies with a combined .463 hitting percentage, 3.29 kills, 1.43 blocks 0.29 aces and 4.43 points per set while propelling the Aggies to victories at Arkansas and Ole Miss last week. With the victories, Texas A&M extended its winning streak to four matches and improved to 10-6 overall and 4-1 in SEC matches only.

Blake had nine kills while hitting at a .500 clip in the Aggies’ first-ever sweep in the all-time series against Arkansas. She also added two blocks and finished with 11.5 points as the Aggies defeated the Razorbacks, 25-22, 25-11, 25-15, Wednesday in Fayetteville.

Blake set a personal season high and tied her career high with 14 kills while hitting .444 in the 3-1 (25-12, 21-25, 25-20, 25-18) victory at Ole Miss on Sunday. She also took match-high honors in blocks with seven against the Rebels, and she earned team-high honors in points with 19.5, a half-point shy of her career high. With the victory, Texas A&M improved to 13-0 in the all-time series against the Rebels.

Blake, who has started every match this season, leads the SEC and is third in the nation with 1.61 blocks per set for the full season. She is ninth in the league with a .342 hitting efficiency, and is she averaging 2.54 kills per set in all matches.

After playing 14 of their first 16 matches on the road, the Aggies return home this weekend to host a pair of SEC matches at Reed Arena. On Friday, Texas A&M plays host to South Carolina. First serve is at 6:30 p.m.

In celebration of National Dessert Day on Friday, Aggie Aces will be hosting a free ice cream tailgate at the student entrance prior to the match against the Gamecocks. In addition, the first 100 fans will receive a free Chick Fil-A cookie. Also on tap at Reed on Friday is a pie eating contest and a chance to win Chick-Fil-A milkshakes for a year.

On Sunday, the Aggies have a pivotal match against No. 9 Florida at 4 p.m. It will be the Aggies’ annual “Dig Pink” match, and all fans wearing pink can purchase tickets for $3 at the door. In addition, the first 300 fans receive free. Dig Pink shirts.
