Cedar Point reveals more intel on Steel Vengeance roller coaster

Get ready to scream!

SANDUSKY, Ohio -- It won’t be dormant for long…

Steel Vengeance -- Cedar Point’s newest scream machine -- is just months away from carrying its first riders along the coaster’s record-breaking track.

WKYC was given a tour of the construction site during the park’s annual Winter Chill Out charity event on Saturday.

“The structure of Steel Vengeance is complete,” park spokesman Tony Clark says. “All of the ride components are now being put in. So your brakes, your tires that move the train through parts of the track, the control systems, electrical, underground utilities and things that aren’t very exciting. Those are the things happening now.”

Clark said the ride will run its first tests at some point in March.

TIMELINE | From Mean Streak to Steel Vengeance

Unlike other roller coasters at Cedar Point, Steel Vengeance will offer thrillseekers the opportunity to purchase a video of their ride experience.

Steel Vengeance takes over the space once held by the rickety Mean Streak roller coaster, and breaks a total of 10 world records.

Guests will climb aboard Steel Vengeance inside a reimagined version of the former attraction’s station.

Other highlights include:

Steel Vengeance ride entry sign will be placed atop a large boulder.

The Emporium gift shop nearby is being remodeled and will be the official Steel Vengeance store.

Cedar Point opens for the 2018 season on Saturday, May 5.

With the addition of Steel Vengeance, Cedar Point has the most roller coaster track in the world with 11.4 total miles. It’s also the only amusement park with six roller coasters taller than 200 feet.
