Press Release Details:

Our event is through the American Dental Association. It is called Give Kids A Smile. This is our 8th year and we have provided free dental care for kids in need for over 650 kids and about $207,000 in donated dental preventive services. We (Blinn College Dental Hygiene GKAS event) have been recognized at a Health Symposium in Washington DC as an example of a community/professional/college collaboration to promote health in underserved families. The event is student organized and led ( I oversee the process through my Community Dental Health Class).

We hold this event to provide an avenue for families in need to have a resource to obtain dental care for their children. With the economy changes many families are losing dental insurance and cannot financially seek dental care. Dental decay is a widespread problem in many families today and research has shown dental health is essential to overall health. Over ½ of all children ages 6-8 have had active decay and by the age of 15 that jumps to 2/3’s of kids with active decay.

We foster service to the community in our program and try to instill a passion for community service and providing needed care for those in need by donating their time and professional abilities. We have many families in B/CS that are in need so this is how Blinn Dental Hygiene Program gives back!

Parents can call 979-209-7283 for an appointment. The event is Thursday April 7th from 5-7:30. We have a limited number of appointments. It is designed for elementary age children.
