VERIFY: Exploding water bottles in yards

A post circulating on social media warns homeowners about exploding water bottles in their yards. Our Kacey Bowen VERIFIES if these bottles do in fact explode, and if it is happening in the area.

VERIFY QUESTION:

A post circulating social media is warning homeowners of a bottle being left in their yard.

But, not just any bottle - an exploding bottle.

The bottle is a mixture of water, tin foil and the common household cleaner, Drano.

We VERIFIED if this mixture can actually cause an explosion and if it is happening in the Bryan area.

VERIFY SOURCE:

To VERIFY this, we spoke to the Bryan Police Department and researched the materials involved.

VERIFY PROCESS:

Bryan PD said they have not had any recent reports of this type of incident happening.

Sources online and videos on YouTube do confirm that the mixture of water, foil and Drano, can cause an explosion.

VERIFY CONCLUSION:

After speaking with Bryan PD and researching the ingredients we can VERIFY that the three ingredients, when mixed together, can incite a reaction. But, we can also VERIFY that it is not an immediate threat for homeowners in Bryan.

Bryan PD did say that if you see anything suspicious in your yard or anywhere, call your local police to check things out.
