HPD: Dentist shoots suspect in SE Houston

HOUSTON - A bizarre scene ended in gunfire Tuesday afternoon outside a southeast Houston dental office.

Police say a man was hassling a woman outside New Teeth Dental Solutions in the 4500 block of Broadway near Moline.

The frightened woman went inside the dental office to get away from him but he followed her, according to police.

"He charged into the office, screaming incoherently, exposed himself. He beat on the door, hit a hole in the door, chased the dentist through the back of the business," said an HPD officer.

The dentist told officers he tried to calm the man down, but the suspect continued to act aggressively toward him. When the suspect charged at him, the dentist shot him once in the abdomen.

“We, literally, were in fear for our lives," said Dr. Kyle LaVirl Hale, another dentist.

The unidentified suspect was taken to an area hospital. His condition isn’t known.

No one else was hurt.

Police believe the suspect was on drugs.
