Man dies after argument leads to shooting at a N. Texas golf course

Man killed on Collin County golf course

ANNA, TEXAS - A person who was shot during an argument at a Collin County golf course has died, authorities say.

Julio Garcia, 55, was shot at about 9:40 a.m. at the Hurricane Creek Country Club. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The shooting prompted a temporary lockdown at the nearby Joe K. Bryant Elementary School, Anna ISD said.

According to the Collin County Sheriff's Office, 20-year-old John Robert Sim was arrested at the scene.

"This appears to be a result of conflict between the two men and deputies feel confident that no other parties are involved," read a statement from the sheriff's office.

Sim is being held at the Collin County Detention Facility on a $500,000 bond.

On Wednesday night, friends and family gathered at the Garcia home. People described Julio Garcia as a "loving man" with six children. Family also said he was a hard-working, do-it-all landscaper.

"I'm so sad right now for all my family, my mom, and brothers...everybody," said daughter Viri Govea.

The family said it did not know what the argument was about between them.
