UCA, Harding among colleges receiving emergency message intended for Lone Star College

Emergency text mistakenly sent to multiple colleges

CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) - UCA Police Department and Harding University were quick to post on Twitter about a fake emergency text message being sent out to students.

Late Wednesday night, a message was sent out telling recipients to "calmly evacuate all buildings" and wait for instructions. The fake message then sent out another message clarifying the emergency was at "University Park".

The police shared it on Facebook as well. It's unclear at this time if any students or faculty followed the instructions.

"Fake messages" were reported at different college campuses including Texas Tech, Ole Miss, and Baylor. But as it turns out, the message was intended for only one college campus.

Our sister station KHOU out of Houston, Texas told THV11 the messages were originally intended only for the Lone Star College-University Park campus. The campus was being evacuated due to a potential gas leak.
