COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Happy Birthday!
City of College Station turns 78 years old on Wednesday.
Over the years, the city has shared a rich history with not only Texas A&M university and it's neighbor, City of Bryan, but developed a distinct identity of it's own.
In 1938, the city's population was a little over 2,000 and now it's grown to more than 109,000 people.
"Although it's kind of obvious, College Station began as a railroad depot and it's name started as College, Texas. But because of the post office moniker, College Station as a station for dropping off mail, the city adopted that name when it became incorporated. Most people don't know that," said External Relations Manager Mike Neu.
