BRYAN, Texas--- Representative Leighton Schubert (R-Caldwell) has decided not to seek re-election to the Texas House of Representatives. The decision was announced Thursday afternoon.
Rep. Schubert has represented District 13 in the Texas House since 2015 and is in his second term. His district includes Grimes, Burleson, Washington, Colorado, Fayette, Lavaca, and Austin Counties.
“Serving the people of District 13 over the past two terms has been a great honor,” he said in a statement. “I look forward to spending more time with my family. I care deeply for this area and this decision was not an easy one.”
Contenders for Schubert’s seat will first face a March 2017 primary. Then, they’ll run in the general election in November 2018.
