COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Researchers at Texas A&M say a new strain of bacteria could be bad for the cotton industry and farmers should be concerned.
Kevin Cox, a researcher at A&M discovered his findings a year ago, but they are now being revealed.
A new strain of bacterial blight of cotton essentially is a smart bacteria with a sweet teeth. However it can be tracked down.
"How it looks on cotton is like, if you look under a leaf you can see little water soap lesions so it looks like the leaf has been soaped with water," Cos said.
Local farmers told KAGS they are not worried about it right now and haven't seen this bacteria yet. They would like to learn more on how to prevent it.
"What they could do to help prevent is to eradicate the ones and not water the crops as much," Cox said.
