Suspected drunk driver hits patrol car during fatal crash investigation

BRYAN, Texas -- A Bryan man was arrested for allegedly drinking and driving and resisting arrest, following a fatal crash Sunday morning.

Officers were working a single car accident on the 1100 block of S. Texas Ave around 2:30 a.m. Police say the driver, Jose Martinez, 25 of Bryan, lost control of his car, striking a concrete utility pole. He was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene.

As officers investigated the accident, a suspected drunk driver hit a patrol car that was blocking the roadway.

Police say Richard Castle, 40 of Bryan, hit the driver side of a police unit that had its emergency lights on. The officer was not in the car at the time. Castle was arrested for DWI and resisting arrest.

At this time, it is unknown if alcohol played a factor in Martinez crashing his car.
