Talawrence Tennell's motion for new trial denied

BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas -- A local judge denied Talawrence Tennell's motion for a new trial Tuesday afternoon.

After several days of court hearings, the decision was handed down at 5:00 p.m.

In April Tennell was convicted and sentenced to life in prison for the 2015 murder of 7-month-old Hailey Burleson.

The girls' mother left her with Tennell while she took her older daughter to an appointment.  When she returned, she found Tennell holding the baby's lifeless body.   He said she'd fallen off a bed, but she sustained a fractured skull, broken wrist, arm, femur and ribs.  During his trial, testimony showed injuries that severe could not have come from falling off a bed.

During the investigation, officers also discovered Tennell was high on PCP at the time of Hailey's death.
