DPS confirms the 7-year-old girls is the daughter of a Trinity County deputy sheriff.
TRINITY, Texas -- A 7-year-old student was killed and several others injured Thursday morning when a Trinity ISD van, stopped to pick up a child for school, was rear-ended.
According to a DPS preliminary crash report, the van, eastbound on Farm-To-Market Road 1893 in Trinity County, had stopped to pick up a child and was rear-ended by a 2008 Ford pickup driven by 17-year-old Micah Brock.
A 7-year-old girl on the bus received major injuries and was transported to East Texas Medical Center in Trinity. She later died from her injuries.
According to DPS, 11 children and the driver of the van were also sent to ETMC in Trinity with non life-threatening injuries. Three of the injured children have now been treated and released.
In a statement release, Trinity ISD reported one student died and five students were taken to the hospital.
The conflicting reports indict details are developing as authorities work confirm all information.
All children were properly secured at the time of the crash, according to on-scene investigators.
The roadway is currently closed as investigators continue to work the scene, and drivers are urged to seek alternate routes.
