Son of U.S. Rep. Conyers missing in Houston

The son of U.S. Rep. John Conyers Jr., D-Detroit, is reported missing in Texas, according to the Houston Police Department.

Carl Conyers, 21, was last seen by his roommate Tuesday afternoon at their apartment in Houston, and he had shaved his beard before he was reported missing, police said.

John Conyers represents Michigan's 13th District, including Detroit. He was re-elected earlier this month to his 27th term.

Deisha Lewis, 20, said she's been Carl Conyers' girlfriend for nearly a year, and he's had his beard for about as long. Both are students at the University of Houston.

Lewis said she last received a text from him at about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, saying that he was on his way to class and was kind of tired. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, she said.

The congressman's son is well-known, well-respected and well-loved around campus, she said. She also said he's the president of the Black Student Business Association at the university.

"He's a very simple person; he just enjoys relaxing," Lewis said. "He doesn't like partying. He doesn't really drink or anything. He's a very chill person."

Normally, she said, they frequently text. But she didn't hear from him Tuesday evening, and he didn't show up for work at his on-campus job Wednesday in the business department. She said she has no idea where he could be.

"We don't have any leads," Lewis said. "We don't have anything."

Anyone with information regarding Carl Conyers is asked to call Houston Police Department patrol at 713-884-3131 or Houston Police Missing Persons Division at 832-394-1840.
