Tillery charged with assaulting officer during murder hearing

Nathaniel Tillery accused of killing a convenience store clerk in 2015, allegedly assaulted a detention officer on the day of a pre-trial hearing.

BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas -- A man facing charges of murdering another man at a College Station gas station is now charged with assaulting an officer.

Nathaniel Tillery was in court on Friday for a hearing of the murder trial of killing gas station clerk Kevin Garcia.

During the court hearing, an officer asked Tillery to go into a holding cell. He refused and starting backing away. Tillery replied back saying he "never goes in there and that he wanted to talk to his attorney."

The officer said she would escort him to the holding cell. Tillery resisted and starting attacking the officer with his hands. Multiple officers then started pulling him away and put him on the ground to prevent more harm.

The officer has multiple scratches and bruises on her arm and hands.

Tillery is represented by Shane Phelps.
