HOUSTON - The woman who jumped out of a plane while it was taxiing at Bush Intercontinental Airport won't face charges, police said.
Prosecutors said the woman is undergoing psychological tests after her jump that startled passengers on board United Airlines, Flight 1892.
The plane from New Orleans had just landed at IAH around 1:15 p.m. When the plane landed, a female passenger got out of the plane.
According to HPD, the woman opened a hatch on the plane to exit. Police say she jumped out into an airport operating area.
Hampton Friedman was sitting across the aisle when the incident happened and recorded the aftermath.
"I look over and sunlight and I just see a figure essentially step out of it," said Hampton Friedman. "And then I'm like what was that."
According to another passenger, the woman opened the over-wing exit door. The man said that the woman didn't say anything before opening the door. She jumped about 15 feet from the wing of the plane to the ground.
While authorities chased the woman down and investigated, passengers sat on the runway over an hour wondering why.
"I've flown all over the world and I've been on lots of really long flights and I've never experienced anything like this." said Cathy Cole, a passenger on the flight. "I have no earthly idea why she would want to do that."
One passenger said he at first worried the woman left something on the airplane to hurt others.
FBI agents who investigated the scene said that wasn't the case. No one was injured on the flight.
Once the woman finished neuropsychological testing, authorities said she will be released.
