Carter Sets Freshman Scoring Record As No. 19 Aggies Cruise To 90-56 Win At Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas- Chennedy Carter became the first Aggie freshman to score 30+ points in a single game, helping No. 19 Texas A&M to a dominating, 90-56 win over the Lady Raiders in a women’s basketball game at United Supermarkets Arena on Sunday. It is the largest margin of victory for Texas A&M in the 76-game history of the series.

The Aggies (4-1), stormed out of the gates with a 34-5 run, forcing the Lady Raiders (3-2) to use two timeouts early. Texas A&M set school records for points in a quarter (34), 3-pointers in a quarter (6) and was a point away from tying the school record for fewest points allowed in a quarter. The Aggies would lead 49-17 at halftime, and never be seriously challenged in the game.

Carter, who set the Texas A&M freshman record for points in a single game with 30, went 12-of-18 from the field and 3-of-3 on 3-pointers. Carter has scored at least 15 points in all five of her career games, the only Texas A&M freshman to start a career in that fashion.

Carter was one of four Aggies to score in double figures, marking the fifth straight game the Aggies had four double figure scorers. Anriel Howard added 16, Jasmine Lumpkin had a season-high 14 and Danni Williams, playing in front of about 100 friends and family members from nearby Clovis, N.M., had 14, including 3 3-pointers in the Aggies’ dominating first quarter.

The Aggies return home for a back-to-back next week, hosting Prairie View A&M on November 28 and Rice on November 29. Both games tip at 7 p.m. and are broadcast on SEC Network +.
