Tripucka Named Burlsworth and Ray Guy Candidate

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M junior punter Shane Tripucka has been named a candidate for the Burlsworth Trophy and the Ray Guy Award. Tripucka is one of six SEC players nominated for the Burlsworth and one of eight nominees from the league for the Ray Guy.

Tripucka has impressed this season, taking over the punting duties for the No. 7 Aggies. The specialist has punted 41 times for the Maroon & White, 17 of which have pinned the opponents inside the 20 yard line and 13 have gone for 50 yards or more. The Allen, Texas native, has a 43.3 yard per punt average with a season long of 59 yards.

The Burlsworth Trophy and the Springdale (AR) Rotary Club announced the 52 players nominated from Division 1 (FBS) schools from across the country for the 2016 Burlsworth Trophy Tuesday. In the award’s seventh year, the Trophy is named in honor of Brandon Burlsworth, former University of Arkansas Walk-On and All-American offensive lineman. The 2015 winner was quarterback Baker Mayfield from the University of Oklahoma.

The Augusta Sports Council has released the complete list of candidates for the 2016 Ray Guy Award. The Ray Guy Award identifies the nation’s top collegiate punter at the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards every year in December. The list will be narrowed down to 10 semifinalists on Friday, November 11, followed by three finalists who will be identified on Tuesday, November 22.
