BRYAN, Texas — Mikayla was born and raised in La Porte Texas, and after graduating from La Porte High School she found herself at San Jacinto Community College where she developed her love for writing. She had to move to College Station Texas after transferring to Texas A&M University in 2016 and decided to major in English and minor in Sociology.

Mikayla discovered her love for media and reporting while at Texas A&M University. She started working for The Battalion, a local, student-run newspaper, as a science and technology journalist in 2017.

Mikayla also founded The Creative Writing Techniques club at Texas A&M to help give the creative writers in Aggieland a space to hone their skills in writing. Mikayla would remain club president for three years and vice president in her last year at Texas A&M.

In 2017, Mikayla found herself working for The Zone 1150 AM | 93.7 FM, a local sports radio station as a Board Operator. While there she worked her way up the ranks and was promoted to a producer position for Chip Howard Sports Talk.

Later, she became a producer to The Louie Belina Show and was then promoted to a head producer position for TexAgs Radio. She was also in charge of The Zone Sports Radio Website and The Zone’s social media manager. She would continue to work there for almost five years.

Mikayla graduated with her bachelor’s degree in English and her certification in Technical and Professional Writing from Texas A&M in December 2019, which would turn out to be the last in-person graduation ceremony at Texas A&M for a while due to the Global Pandemic.

Due to the pandemic, Mikayla sought out a second job which is how she found KAGS NEWS. She started as a part-time production assistant in July 2021, where she learned the ins and outs of the news world.

Mikayla was promoted to Digital Content Producer roughly seven months later, then broadcast news producer. She is excited to put her accumulated knowledge to work. If you have a story tip or information you would like to pass along, please email her at MAndrade@kagstv.com.
