Erin Wencl - News Director

Erin previously worked in news in the Fargo, North Dakota area and was born and raised in Minnesota.

Erin started her news career at WDAY-TV in Fargo, North Dakota as a part-time newsroom assistant in 2006. Looking to find more opportunities in the broadcast world, she asked to be put behind the wheel of the prompter during WDAY's morning show, First News, and worked in both the newsroom and studio control for several years.

During her time at WDAY, Erin did several jobs in studio control, including video playback, audio operator, graphics and finally technical director. She also field produced WDAY's special year-long project the "60 on 6", updating viewers on stories that changed the Red River Valley over WDAY's 60 years of broadcasting.

Erin was hired as Executive Producer and Social Media Manager at KVRR in Fargo in 2015 and was soon promoted to Assistant News Director. During her time there, KVRR was nominated for an Emmy for best evening newscast, the first in the station's history. She also helped KVRR earn an Associated Press award and honorable mention for stories worked on with the news team. She also helped design and launch the station's first morning show.

In January of 2018, Erin was hired as Executive Producer for KCEN's Texas Today in Temple, Texas and helped revitalize the newscast before being promoted and hired as News Director of KCEN's sister station, KAGS. 

Erin has a B.A. degree in Theatre Arts from Minnesota State University Moorhead, with an emphasis in acting, directing and stage management. She received an Irene Ryan acting nomination for her work in Arthur Miller's All My Sons. She received the top award in directing for the William Inge Festival and is a recipient of the Society of Stage Directors & Choreographers scholarship for directing. As a result of the scholarship, she was one of eight directors chosen in the country to direct a short play at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. during the National American College Theatre Festival. She also stage managed a production of A New Brain, which received a nomination for outstanding musical from ACTF Region V.

Erin grew up in a large family on a dairy farm in southern Minnesota. She enjoys working with animals, taking road trips, writing, performing and doing anything with the arts.
