Reminder: Galveston Polar Express train tickets go on sale today

Railroad museum members will get an early chance to buy tickets Thursday. On Monday, Aug. 26, ticket sales for the public begin.

GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas — The Polar Express Train Ride is being added this winter to Galveston's "Winter Wonder Island" event.

The event offers more than 50 days of holiday-themed activities from November to January.

The Galveston Railroad Museum will offer a 60-minute round-trip journey to the North Pole onboard the "POLAR EXPRESS" Train Ride.

Train passengers will be served hot chocolate and treats while they read along with the classic children's book, The Polar Express, by Chris Van Allsburg.

Santa and his helpers will also be on board the train, giving out a gift to each child. 

The passengers will also be led in Christmas carols on the ride back to the museum.

The Polar Express rides begin on November 15 and run through December 30.

Ticket prices range from $27 to $75. Galveston RR Museum member ticket sales open at 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22. General ticket sales open at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26.

Galveston's Winter Wonder Island also includes: A mile-long trail of more than a million lights; beautiful ice carvings by master artists; Holiday Splash at Schlitterbahn; Dickens on the Strand; The Santa Hustle Half Marathon and 5K and more.
