COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The holidays may be over, but two local organizations are teaming up to give some comfort to kids in need.
Going to the hospital can be scary for anyone, but for a child, it can be especially frightening.
After noticing some teddy bears that wouldn’t sell at their store, Walmart in College Station and Baylor Scott & White had an idea.
“We ran out of those bears. So when Walmart said they had bears available. We immediately said, yes we need those bears for our children,” said Kendall Parker, the Director of Guest Services at Baylor Scott & White.
Walmart Co-manager Fredrick Gentry has been involved with the Children’s Miracle Network and originally thought of giving these bears to children at the hospital.
“In all honesty, I think it was god that put it on my heart," he said, “The first feeling that I had was hey, take it to the children at Baylor Scott & White so this is where we brought it to... I understand that sometimes a bear is what they need to actually give them just a little bit more comfort.”
So for a couple hundred bucks of bears, a priceless gift was given.
“It gives me an overjoying feeling because a lot of the kids they don’t have a voice to speak on whats going on with them,” Gentry said.
So even if it’s something as simple as a teddy bear, Gentry said "it’s important that the kids know we’re here to help them.”
Parker added, “those that come through our doors, it doesn’t matter what their condition is, we’re here to make a difference and help them in any way we can.”
Fredrick Gentry also mentioned the store plans on donating more bears and more time to the children at Baylor Scott & White in the future.
“Us being able to make that memorable moment to give them something to hold on to. That was certainly a blessing,” Parker said.
