Local church offering 'Ashes To Go' for Ash Wednesday

Today is Ash Wednesday, a day marked for prayer before the beginning of lent. Many here in the Brazos Valley spent the morning or afternoon in mass. But, one local church put a twist on the traditional service.

BRYAN, Texas — It's a day that is special to many. Ash Wednesday marks a day of prayer before the beginning of Lent.

And while many here in the Brazos Valley spent their morning, or afternoon, in Mass, one local church was putting a twist on the traditional service.

Ashes To Go - a way for Christians to receive their ashes, while on the run.

"It made since to conduct some of what we do in the church out in the world," said St. Andrew's Rector, Daryl Hay.

From start to finish, Ashes To Go takes no more than five minutes. A person walks up, says a prayer and receives their ashes.

"Now we are able to do what we need to do and go on with our day," said Ashes To Go recipient Cristal Lozano.

During the hour that St. Andrews was on the corner in Downtown Bryan, more than 15 people showed up to receive ashes.
