Need help paying rent? College Station opens up $1.8M to provide aid for low-to-moderate income residents

The money will be used for both tenant-based rental assistance and economic assistance for small businesses.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas —

The City of College Station will be giving $1.8 million in federal funds to two grant programs to help low to moderate income residents pay their rent.

The City of College Station Community Development Division will process applications for both tenant-based rental assistance and economic assistance for small businesses.

Tenant- based rental assistance

Qualifying households are eligible to receive up to $1,000 a month for three months, including unpaid rent for May. The payments will be made directly to the landlord on the lease.

Applications will be available on cstx.gov on June 1, and closing June 7.

For questions or more information, you can contact RentAssistance@cstx.gov.

Small-business economic assistance grant

The Economic Assistance Grant Program is opening up its second round of applications with about $500,000 in funds. $40,000 will be dedicated to small businesses who can retain or create jobs for mostly low-to-moderate income residents.

The amount given to each business will be dependent on the number of full-time employees who work each week. Businesses need to provide proof that they’ve been impacted by COVID-19, and they will need to report for 60 days that they are meeting the requirements needed after they’ve received the grant.

If you have any questions or would like  more information on these grants, you can email EconomicAssistance@cstx.gov.

Other funds

Any additional funds will be given to local agencies to help College Station residents who’ve been affected by COVID-19. The funds will be used by agencies to provide  things like rent and utility payments, medical, food, and other basic needs.

Similar programs are available for Bryan residents as well. You can find more information on bryantx.gov.
