BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas — The Brazos County Health District is warning residents about a phone scam, spoofing the district's official phone number and appearing to ask for personal information.

In a tweet, authored Monday, the district said their number had been "hijacked," or copied, to make fraudulent calls to residents, made to believe that they are receiving an official call from the county.

If you receive a call like this, do not give them your personal information. You can also report the call to local law enforcement.

The calls appear to ask for personal information. The county health agency reminded residents they will never contact you directly and ask for insurance, medicare/medicaid, or personal information or any kind.

The county health district added that they only contact residents to give tests results.
