Bryan ISD works to solve unsafe school route

BRYAN, Texas - Bryan ISD is working to find an alternative to an unsafe school route.

Melinda Ashford reached out to KAGS News about two weeks ago. She said that although her daughter attends school right next door to their apartment complex, there was no safe way to walk there. Melinda said some of the kids walk to school on the side of Harvey Mitchell Parkway.

"It's really dangerous for a child or an adult," says Ashford.

KAGS put Melinda in contact with Bryan ISD transportation.

"The director and the assistant director both went out there to take a look and say 'Is there some kind of accommodation that we can made?'," says Brandon Webb, the director of communications at Bryan ISD.

Just over a week ago, Bryan ISD started busing the middle school kids at The Retreat at 2818. They will continue to do so until the end of the school year. The school district has yet to confirm a permanent solution.

Bryan ISD says bus routes are looked at and updated through out the year.

"If it involves our people, we want a dialog going," says Webb.

Anyone with concerns about school transportation is encouraged to contact their school or Bryan ISD transportation.
