Bryan voters approve $12 million school bond by wide margin

The bond passed with 86 percent favor - with 816 for and 132, or 14 percent, against, district officials said.

BRYAN, Texas — Bryan residents approved a $12 million bond for the Bryan Independent School District by a wide margin during Saturday's election.

The bond passed with 86 percent favor - with 816 for and 132, or 14 percent, against, district officials said.

The bond is intended to fund improvements to the areas of safety and security, transportation, roofs and HVAC. The bond also includes funding to purchase equipment for the new Career & Technical Education Complex opening in August, district officials said.

“We appreciate the confidence the voters have in Bryan ISD and the direction we’re heading,” said Bryan ISD Superintendent Dr. Christie Whitbeck. “As I’ve said since this bond election was called, we’re looking at two bonds, one vision.  Now we’ll begin speaking with our parents, staff and community at large about what they’d like to see in a May 2020 bond to support Bryan ISD for years to come.”

The bond will not raise the tax rate for residents living in the district, district officials said.
