Bryan ISD examining new options for graduation ceremonies

A recent announcement by Texas A&M is forcing Bryan ISD to examine new dates and venues for planned high school graduation ceremonies.

BRYAN, Texas — Bryan ISD graduation ceremonies are being affected by coronavirus concerns.

Texas A&M staff told Bryan ISD all events at Reed Arena through the end of May have been canceled or postponed. This announcement affects the planned graduation ceremonies at the arena for Bryan High School and Rudder High School, as well as the planned ceremony at Rudder Auditorium for Bryan Collegiate High School.

The MC Harris graduation at the Bryan Performing Arts Center is not affected.

In a message posted by superintendent Dr. Christie Whitbeck, Bryan ISD is examining options, like a later graduation date at A&M facilities or using Merrill Green Stadium for the ceremonies.

Whitbeck has reached out to senior class officers and will be continuing conversations to get a student perspective on the situation. These students will be in touch with other classmates to brainstorm ideas on new traditions.

All decisions will be based on the further development of the situation surrounding COVID-19 including returning to school, social distancing guidelines.

Bryan ISD said seniors will graduate and receive their diploma. The school district would like to create an opportunity for the same reverence and fanfare of any other Bryan ISD graduation ceremony of the past, maybe with some new twists.
