Containing COVID-19 requires everyone to do their part

Understanding of COVID-19 is growing each day but there is still a lot to learn about it before this pandemic ends.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas — The United States officially has the highest number of coronavirus cases out of all the countries. And this amount is only continuing to grow.

The total in the nation is more than 3,500 cases and there is currently still no cure.

“We know that the best solution for COVID-19 is the vaccine and this is a virus," said Sam Houston State University global health professor, Dhitinut Ratnapradipa. "The vaccine likely won’t be seen for 12-18 months. There’s going to be a lot of mortality that will occur before the vaccine is available. If we do not continue to limit the spread."

COVID-19 is growing each day but there is still a lot to learn about it before this pandemic ends.

“The virus has the potential to mutate. We don’t know if people can be re-infected with the virus. So just because you have it, doesn’t mean you won’t get it again," said Ratnapradipa.

To limit the community spread of coronavirus, Ratnapradipa emphasizes restricting movement and contact.

“With anyone that you meet, it’s important to assume that this person has COVID-19," said Ratnapradipa

He added that it is important for the states to be on the same page regarding testing and lockdown rules so that everyone can move forward together.
