Bond is undeniable between local horse trainer and horse

BRYAN, Texas - As the dog days of summer continue, one job that can't seem to escape the heat is horse training. And in rural Bryan, important lessons begin with a daily routine.

"Brushing her off, getting ready to saddle her," said Harrison Faust as he get's his horse, Maggie, ready for some exercises. He's been training her for nearly a year.

"She's stubborn," said Faust, who also trains other horses for a living. "She's got a mind of her own but she's really smart."

Faust is training Maggie to help him with cattle. He works with her on obedience, commands and even her footing. He says the goal is trust.

"I have to depend on her to pay attention to where we're going and what' we're doing," said Faust.

With every step and every day that goes by, the bond between Maggie and Faust grows stronger. He says it's truly a satisfying way to work.

"My favorite part of training her is how talented and how teachable she is," said Faust. "Anytime you ask something new of her, within a day she's picked it up."

Faust said it will take a few more years to train Maggie but she's already made great progress.
