Brenham High School students build and give homemade games to children at MD Anderson

The students created tic-tac-toe boxes for young patients at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

BRENHAM, Texas — Students in Mark Thiel's Construction Technology class at Brenham High School are putting their skills to good use. The students created tic-tac-toe boxes for young patients at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

"We just thought maybe we can make some kids happy," said Jewel Beckendorf, senior at Brenham High School. "We figured that since we were kids we liked to do tic-tac-toe and figured why not make it out of wood. It's kind of creative."

It took just about a month for the students to make 240 tic-tac toe-boxes.

The students work together with Adam's Angels Ministry to provide the handmade gifts to children battling cancer.

"A lot of these kids parents, they're paying for the treatments and these parents don't really have money to give them Christmas gifts," said Alejandro Soto, a junior in high school.

Adam's Angels Ministry is a non-profit that works with families facing childhood cancer. The organization says it is thankful for people like the students at Brenham High School who think of others this holiday season.

"It's not about me and this organization, it's about them giving back and these young teens knowing that they have made one child smile that day," said Donna Culliver, the founder of Adam's Angels Ministry. "That's all that matters."

The students say they are just glad they can help.

"It made me feel special that we are doing things for kids that are sick and I think its cool to do something to make them smile," said Claudio Zavala, a sophomore.

This is the third time Brenham High School and Adam's Angels Ministry collaborated together.
