BRYAN, Texas —

BISD employees are receiving a nice salary increase this upcoming school year thanks largely in part to the Texas House Bill 3 that Governor Abbott signed earlier this month.

House Bill 3 includes $6.5 billion to improve public education and increase teacher salaries, plus $5.1 billion to lower school district taxes.

BISD is using 57.7 percent of the estimated revenue increase from HB3 to cover the salary increases for teachers, counselors, nurses, librarians, and non-administrative staff.

The average salary for teachers, librarians, counselors and nurses will increase between 4.7 percent to 14 percent with larger increases for more experience.

Bus drivers hourly rate will increase from $15.50 to $18.00.

The recommendation that was approved by BISD states they can withhold a pay increase in accordance with Board Policy DEA, for any employee whose 2018-2019 evaluation was less than satisfactory.
