Cities of Bryan and College Station declare States of Disaster; close facilities

Until further notice, the cities are also recommending limiting public and private events to under 10 people.

BRYAN, Texas —

College Station Mayor Karl Mooney and Bryan Mayor Andrew Nelson have both declared States of Disaster in response to the novel coronavirus making its way to Brazos County.

This declaration will allow each city to take actions to prevent the virus from further spread, including quarantining people and buildings, examining and regulating hospitals, regulating movement in and out of the city, establishing quarantine stations and emergency hospitals and ensuring compliance with these regulations.

Until further notice, the cities are also recommending limiting public and private events to under 10 people.

The declaration is activated immediately and will last seven days, and will be extended on a need basis by the City Council for each city.

As a precaution, the cities of Bryan and College Station will be closing their facilities until March 31 in order to reduce the risk of employees and the public.

Essential city services in both cities will continue.
