BRYAN, Texas - Twenty women made an appointment today to get a free mammogram at Santa Teresa's Catholic Church in Bryan through the Texas C-Step program. The screening was sponsored by Texas A&M's Physicians Family Medicine, A&M's Health Science Center and the Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas.
Brenda Hernandez is a community health worker for Texas C-Step. She says that prevention can save lives which is why they are working to get more people help.
"Most women don't know how to get a mammogram. Once they see there is a program out there that offers free services, they are more inclined to make an appointment," says Hernandez.
The group is also making mammograms convenient. Using a mobile unit, they held their free mammogram service at St. Teresa's Church in Bryan. The service will now be offered there monthly. To find out how to book an appointment, call Brenda at 979.436.0049 or her coworker, Rosa at 979.436.0443.
