David Martinez III, 19, of Bryan, is charged with theft of property and is currently in the Brazos County Jail on $4,000 bond. He admitted to police he stole nearly $1,500 from the cash register at Macy's, where he worked, according to court documents.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — A Bryan man has been arrested for stealing money from a store where he worked at the Post Oak Mall in College Station.

David Martinez, III, 19, is charged with theft of property. He's accused of stealing nearly $1,500 from Macy's where he worked.

Investigators talked with loss prevention officials at the Macy's located at the Post Oak Mall at 1508 Harvey Road in College Station. The store's loss prevention manager told investigators he had discovered Martinez's register had been short on a number of occasions. The manager told investigators when they questioned Martinez, he admitted to taking the money.

The manager then showed investigators video evidence that showed Martinez taking money from the cash register and putting it into his pocket on several occasions, according to court documents. Investigators said the manager gave them a signed confession from Martinez on the following dates and the money he took from them:

  • $30 on Nov. 29, 2019
  • $30 on Dec. 6, 2019
  • $55 on Dec. 7, 2019
  • $100 on Dec. 8, 2019
  • $25 on Dec. 9, 2019
  • $260 on Dec. 9, 2019 (Same shift, different register)
  • $100 on Dec. 11, 2019
  • $200 on Dec. 11, 2019 (Same shift, different register)
  • $500 on Dec. 13, 2019
  • $100 on Dec. 15, 2019
  • $150 on Dec. 17, 2019

While the signed statement shows Martinez admitted to stealing a total of $1,550, the loss prevention manager has a record of only $1,416.88 so that is the amount on record.

A check of Martinez's record shows he was arrested back in May of 2019 for burglary of a home. He bonded out two days later. It is unknown how long he had been an employee of Macy's.

Martinez is currently in the Brazos County Jail on $4,000 bond.
