The College Station Firefighters of Stations 3 and 5 teamed up with Dominos this evening to deliver pizza but with an added twist.
Once they got to the designated house the firefighters would then check to see if the smoke detectors in the home worked and if so then the pizza was free.
"For the program they have to have a working smoke detector." Capt. Jason Giles of Station 5 said. "There's codes that come in different years. The new code is there's a smoke detector, a working smoke detector, in every bedroom so we check those, if they don't have those well install those for them at no cost."
They also asked the family some basic fire safety questions such as what to do in case of a fire. The firefighters also shared fire safety tips and information specifically with the kids.
This is the eleventh year the city of College Station, Dominos and the firefighters have done this event and they plan to do it again next year as well.
